Keep the task cards loose and pass out the cards to students, pairs, or groups. You can differentiate the questions the students receive based on their levels.
Give students choices on which task cards they will complete. For example, pick 50 out of the 76 cards to complete by the end of the novel or have students complete the even or odd numbered cards.
